In a virtual carbon copy of the women's final scenario, Johnny Archer avenged
his winner's bracket loss to George SanSouci with a 9-6 win in the title match
of the Billiard Congress of America Open 9-Ball Championships at the Riviera
Hotel/Casino in Las Vegas.
"I didn't look at it as a revenge thing," insisted Archer, who
earned $15,000 to the title. "Any win is great. Obviously, beating George
is great because he's been playing so well." Archer forged an early 4-2
lead before a missed shot in game seven gave SanSouci a chance to knot the
match. The score was tied at 4-4, 5-5 and 6-6 before Archer pieced together a
solid three-rack run to close the match.

"When George missed the 1 ball ahead 6-5," said Archer. "I knew I
had to take advantage. It was too late in the match to give him another
chance." "You just can't make mistakes when you're playing a player
like Johnny,"
noted SanSouci, who earned $7,500 as runnerup.
For Archer, the win is a confidence booster coming at a perfect time.
"This is a big confidence builder going into the world championship in
Cardiff. I'm playing well, and this really helps."
