Breedlove watches as Strickland barely puts him away.

Earl Strickland started out strong but needed all 17 games to beat George Breedlove in one of the first matches of Friday's competition at the Camel Pro Billiards Series Denver Open. Strickland powered a few combinations in to take a 6-3 lead on Breedlov e (race to 9), but Breedlove's massive break brought him back in the game. Breedlove brought the game to 8-8, but Strickland was able to survive the onslaught.

Other winners in the early Friday rounds include Johnny Archer, Francisco Bustamante and Jose Parica, as well as Jim Rempe, Jeff Carter and Tang Hoa on the one-loss side. More updates to follow after the 6:00 p.m. matches.
