Calling the Women's Professional Billiard Association National 9-Ball
Championship "the biggest title on the ladies' pro tour," world-beater
Allison Fisher prepared to defend her crown at the Brunswick WPBA
Nationals in Red Wing, Minn.
Fisher, the prohibitive favorite to
once again claim the tour's player-of-the-year honors, will open her title
defense against Tammie Wesley Jones Thursday evening at the Treasure
Island Resort and Casino.
"The Nationals was the second title I won
when I joined the tour in 1995," said Fisher. "It's a great title to win.
But most importantly, I just want to play good pool."
The tour's top
16 players were seeded into the second round in the 48-player field of the
$85,000 event. Fisher entered the tournament as the top seed, with
second-ranked Jeanette Lee squaring off against Peg Ledman at the bottom
of the double-elimination bracket. Vivian Villarreal and Ewa Laurance were
the No. 3 and No. 4 seed, resepectively.
