If Dawn Hopkins doesn't win the Connelly Players
Championship in Valley Forge this weekend, she'll
be able to point to her lack of practice time. It
would be hard to blame her, seeing as how she and
her husband Allen have putting in heavy hours to
make sure the Super Billiard Expo goes as planned.
"My concentration isn't quite there," said
Hopkins, just minutes after defeating Bev Carrick
9-7 in the first round of the loser's bracket.
In fact, it's amazing she even plays. With the
administrative duties she has to perform in order
to coordinate exhibitors, attendees and a full
staff is more than enough for one person, much
less try to play in a Womens Professional Billiard
Association tournament.
Still, she claims to have it all under control.
"Most of the staff has been here for quite a few
years, and I have confidence in them," said
Hopkins, "but I am always reachable andifsomething
goes drastically wrong, I'm prepared to forfeit my
match. But I doubt anything like that is going to
happen.
But it will take a major incident to keep Hopkins
off the table. "I love playing, and hate not being
able to play," said Hopkins.
Hopkins will plenty of opportunities to play today
if she continues to win. She plays the winner of
the Candi Rego/Dora Valdez match and if she wins
that, will have to play three more matches to
survive to Sunday.
