The marquee 6pm matches in the Connelly Players
Championship did not fail to entertain the biggest
crowds of the tournament to date.
From one end of the tournament room to the other,
the top-ranked WPBA players strutted their stuff
with more than one wrinkle in the bracket.
Unseeded Nesli O'Hare surprised Jeanette Lee 9-1,
sending Lee to the loser's bracket and a 10:30 pm
matchup instead of a more timely, albeit more
intimidating, 9pm duel with Gerda Hofstatter.
Hofstatter handled Ewa Laurance 9-4, the most she
has let an opponet win against her in the Valley
Forge tournament to date. "I'm feeling really good
right now," said Hofstatter. "My break is working
for me, I'm getting balls on the break and it
helped that Ewa didn't sink many on her
breaks."
Surprisingly, Hofstatter said that she hasn't
played O'Hare competitively in over a year.
Although she doesn't expect to vary her game, she
has seen what O'Hare is capable of. "I've always
known that she can beat anyone out here at any
given time," said Hofstatter.
At this posting, Loree Jon Jones and Kristi Carter
were tied at 7 while Helena Thornfeldt led Allison
Fisher 8-7 to round out the winner's bracket.
Matches continue through midnight tonight. Score
updates will occur tonight with the next posting
coming tomorrow afternoon.
