The 2002 World Pool Championship take place at the Cardiff International Arena July 13 and 21

The 2002 World Pool Championship at the Cardiff International Arena July 13 and 21

128 players, 96 are designated by the World Pool Association, 32 by Matchroom Sport.

16 groups of eight in round-robin, race to five with alternate breaks

(Saturday 13 July-Tuesday 16 July).

Top four from each group move into the last 64, from there, its regular bracket-style tournament.

Last 64: race to 9, winner breaks (Wednesday 17 July).

Last 32: race to 9, winner breaks (Thursday 18 July).

Last 16: race to 11, winner breaks (Friday 19 July).

Quarter-Finals: race to 11, winner breaks (Saturday 20 July).

Semi-Finals: race to 11, winner breaks (Saturday 20 July).

Final: race to 17, winner breaks (Sunday 21 July).

Prize fund:

Winner $65,000, Runner-Up $30,000, Losing Semi-Finalists $17,500,

Losing Quarter-Finalists $8,500, Losing Last 16 $4,000, Losing Last 32

$2,000, Losing Last 64 $1,500, 5th Place in Group $1,000, 6th Place in Group $500.
