barryb We look forward to this Billiards Digest LIVE Chat and Welcome all of your questions. We will do our best to answer all of you. Also, thanks to Billiards Digest and Mike Howerton for putting this together.
azhousepro How many players have signed up for the Open so far?
barryb We are very excited to announce that we have 236 Paid Players for this years event. Only 20 spots left

ShaftMaster Do you think the anticipation of the upcoming IPT tour has anything to do with the large turnout? and do you feel it will have a positive impact on the 9 ball tours?
barryb We have worked on promoting this event worlwide by means of sanctioning with the WPA and UPA to unite pool worldwide. This is something that i was glad to orchestrate months ago. I believe that is the main reason the U.S.Open will be full this year and the years to come. Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the IPT tour. Look whats going on with Poker. I think its wonderful for the IPT tour

RonsTheOne hey Barry...if u had to pick a player to win the open who do u like?
barryb There are too many great players. As a promoter, I dont want to pick a winner. There are many great players who have not won yet.
sizl Are you planning on supporting the IPT? What is your views of Kevin Trudeau?
barryb As a supporter, ofcourse I will support the IPT tour. I am finally happy that players have an oppurtunity to earn substantial money. 50 Years ago, PGA Tour wins were 5,000. The PGA tour is the reason that every golf tournament is 5,000,000 total prizefund. Its all because of television, organization, and TV

kcinnc Hey Barry, Was your decision to join the UPA influenced by their "schedule conflict" which ruined your Masters tournement this year (42 total entries with 9 full time pros)? Also do you have an opinion on this same tactic being uses against the Derby City Classic?
barryb I orchestarted the unification with both tours way before i changed my masters dates. I think it would be rediculous if the UPA scheduled an event around the worlds greatest all around event of today. That would only weaken the sport again
JackJustis Someone told me that you named your dog after one of the top players.....is that true?
barryb When i introduced my puppy to buddy hall at the derby city. Buddy hall asked what his name was. I said his name is cecil but Buddy for short. LOL
vader93490 Barry, will you be using the Sardo rack again this year at your event?
barryb Yes, and the one ball is on the spot and we are using the break box. No soft Breaks. Also the two ball will be on the end.

cueball1950 Barry, are you worried about the storm just south of you interfering with the Open
barryb I worry for those down south. In 1999 when floyd came through the week before the open, people left there homes to come to the us open. we only had two cancellations. My fans are simply the greatest. I hope everyone is safe and everyone is able to make it. The forecast for here after tomorrow is clear 80 degrees during the day and 65 at night.

wagnew Hi Barry, The dates for your next three opens appear to be starting over Labor Day weekend. Why so Early in September?
barryb Last years open due to my religious holidays forced me to move it to labor day monday. No one complained and after the event the hotels and conference center asked that we use these dates. Since there were no complaints i went along with it to appease players, fans, hotels, etc. The hotels also have better rates and more availability.

Pel Doesn't the sardo rack make it easier for the players as it is easier to read the break because each ball will always sit in the same hole on the table?
barryb Only 3 balls sit in the same spot. The 1, 2, and 9. The sardo is without a doubt the best tight rack. I put the break box back in this year because i dont want the best breaker to win. I want the best player to win. IMO, The breakbox equalizes the player thats playing the best. Not just the breaker

vader93490 Barry, do you have an emergency plan set up in case (God forbid) another hurricane pays you a visit during your event?
barryb No, I do not and luckily dont need to make any plans this year but in the future I may take out a policy with lloyds of london

Mr_Clean Barry, will Q-Masters be open 24/7 year starting September 15 and can we novice players just come to watch?
barryb Well ofcourse. Anyone involved with the event at the conference center are welcome to be here. Players, Fans etc.
azhousepro How is the ring game shaping up for Sunday night?
barryb So far commited are: Efren Reyes, Corey Deuel, Rodney Morris other players in the works are are John Archer, Jeremy Jones, and I will have 6 U.S.Open champs. 8,000 first, 4,000 second
............................ Fran_Crimi joined.............
steven_w Barry - With the whole shebang of the IPT Tour (hopefully) starting up, do you feel pressure to make the US Open a larger tournament? Is there a possibility that it could also guarantee six figure payouts?
barryb I am very happy this year that field will be full. I am happy to add 72,000 + 8,000 for past champions. In 34 years I have seen many tours fail. I cant predict what will happen for the open for years to come. I hope the IPT tour becomes successful. It will be great for everybody.
cueball1950 Barry, I know that you have been doing this for 30 years now. Most years not making a profit. My question is this. After all the trouble with storms, 9/11, money losses, etc why do you continue to do this. Is it for the love of the game, fans and players?
barryb All of the Above and the great friends that have supported me and my event through all these years through thick and thin. It's become a passion and its wonderful to see everybody come together each and every year. It reminds me of the fans at augusta national, a tradition like no other.
Mr_Clean What is the ring game?
barryb Sunday the 18th at 9pm-12am. 10 Ball is the game. Ante will increase rappidly.
............................ billiards_dave left.............
Pel You have done a lot for billiards, but even though this has nothing to do with pros, what about promoting billiard room play. There are too many of these bar leagues and this stuff isn't pool. Can you start doing promos at your tournament encouraging players to play in the B room? Better yet, how about convincing other tours to begin doing the same.
barryb Thats funny that you mention that. This year at Q-Masters Saturday and Sunday the BCA and APA will be playing under one roof in two seperate events. We also have over 100 teams that play out of q-masters each and every week. visit www.q-masters.com for more info.
............................ Fran_Crimi left.............
Tom_Potter Hey Barry. Tom Kennedy said to tell you hello. My question is are you planning to keep the Masters running? Hope your event goes well for you this year.
barryb Tommy is the greatest! Praise the LORD! Yes the masters will continiue. I will be announcing the masters for next year at the open. You know me, I don't give up!

cueball1950 Greatweather forecast i remember floyd. i was there and i was also there for Isabel a couple of years ago. This is my 18th year i believe. Back to the old room and the lake wright hotel.
barryb Mike, its fans and friends like you that really help motivate from year to year!
JackJustis I was just kidding with you about buddy.....look forward seeing you next week and thanks for letting me back in....
barryb Jack, Dont forget my Crown.. LOL
............................ steven_w left.............
azhousepro How many former champions will be there?
barryb Of the 19 past champions, 15 or 16 will be here.
............................ Jim_Walker left.............
kcinnc Will the ring game be at Q-Masters or the conference center? What time? How much?
barryb It will be at the Conference center from 9pm-12 midnight. It will be shown live on the internet as well at www.billiardclub.net. Also, if you are not aware, BCN has many of last years matches online now that are free to watch.
Tom_Potter Will you be running the Master's again at your poolroom or will you put it back into the convention center?
barryb Q-Masters is where it belongs. The masters at Q-Masters especially since we have done so much remodeling the entire place.
............................ pooldaddy9 joined.............
cueball1950 Will you ever consider doing a straight pool tournament/us open or is it just to much of a money loser?
barryb When i first fell in love with pool, the game i fell in love with was straight pool. My high run was 82. Back in the day, i used to play pretty good. Right now I have a lot on my plate being so involved at Q-masters and every asspect of my business. Luckily I have my son here helping me. Maybe one day we will have a straight pool event. It also depends on what my fans want.
wagnew Barry, What's the latest on Steve Mizerak? We are praying for him and hope to see him at the Open this year.
barryb He will be here Thursday the 22nd for sure and is extremely excited about his tribute on Friday. He is staying all weekend as well, leaving on Monday.
............................ juegabillar left.............
cueball1950 Are you sorry that you sold the old place (norview i believe)
barryb I'll always remember my roots but I am happy to have one awesome location that players have said that this room may be the best players room in the country. A larger scale of my original location and nicer! Wait until you see the improvements we've made this past year.

barryb When i spoke with him days ago, he was making airplane reservations coming in on the weekend for the MIZ tribute, past champs ceremony 9pm sat night at the event. Matches will follow the ceremonies. He wont be playing.
Tom_Potter Barry, have you given any thought to possibly doing a 10-ball event sometime in the future? Tommy K. is looking forward to playing and perhaps I'll make it up there sometime in the future.
barryb right now I am focusing on the Open and my business.
............................ queannie joined.............
Pel But the BCA and APA are predominately bar leagues.
barryb Yes this is true but we have inhouse APA and new inhouse BCA teams forming. We also have our own VBBC in house league. 7ft and 9ft tables. 8 Ball and 9 Ball
cueball1950 Barry, In your own opinion, What can be done to help pool grow and get more exposure?
barryb television and sposorship. Thats what its all about. Major outside corporations becoming involved.
............................ poolschool joined.............
Tom_Potter Any message you'd like me to pass along to Tommy K when I next speak to him?
barryb tell him i said to "Grow Up" and yes he can play in the open this year
............................ JackJustis left.............
wagnew Me again - How about a special prize for the most run outs to win a match, like an unfinished run in 14.1 straight pool?
barryb Whatever you want to do is fine with me. Let me know what you would like to do. I will have a trophy made with your name on it. "The Me Again High Run". I will buy the trophy, you put up the cash.
