Whenever I feel like I’m a little out of stroke, I try these stop shots.



Sink the short one 20 to 25 times in a row — stopping the cue ball dead on contact — before moving on to the longer one, which is a lot harder. Sink that one 20 to 25 times in a row, and you can start practicing drawing the cue ball straight back so it touches the cue tip after the shot.



Once you feel like you’re getting in stroke, set up the shot in Diagram 2 and hit it with straight follow. The cue ball will hit the left short rail and proceed to the right. Then try the same shot, but with draw (Diagram 3). If you can’t play well after making that shot 20 times in a row, you need to see a psychologist.
