Troy Tangles the Black Widow
by Kirstin Pires
As a full-house crowd looked on, Jeanette Lee suffered her first set-back at the Camel Pro 8-Ball Open today at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. Ohio's Troy Frank kept focused on the game, not the opponent and sent the "Black Widow" to the one-loss side, 7-4.
Frank was philosophical about the win, "I just took it as another match," he said. "I have to stick with my game plan, I can't play everyone different."
The match was a close battle to begin, with Frank going out first and Lee tying things up at 2-2. Frank had pulled ahead 3-2 going into the sixth game, but Lee cleared the solid balls, and was shooting straight in on the 8 when the tight pockets on the Diamond tournament table coughed the black ball back onto the table. Frank then took back the table, and while Lee would take two more sets, Frank reached seven first. "She plays well," commented Frank. "You can't take her lightly. She's proved it."
Lee plays next at 11 a.m. on Thursday while Frank advances to take on the winner of the 8:00 match between Roger Griffis and Greg Fix.
