LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!
by Mike Panozzo
All eyes in the billiard world shift to storied York Hall in Bethnal Green on London's rugged East Side for the opening blows in the 2000 Acclaim Mosconi Cup team 9-ball tournament produced and promoted by Matchroom Sport.
The Ryder Cup-style event will open Thursday night with doubles matches. U.S. captain Earl Strickland, and his European counterpart Ralf Souquet of Germany, submitted their pairings Thursday afternoon. The event will kick off with Finland's Mika Immonen and Swede Macrus Chamat squaring off against American stalwart Johnny Archer and Shannon "The Cannon"
Daulton.
The German duo of Souquet and Thomas Engert will face young American's Jeremy Jones and Michael Coltrain (who played well together in the '99 Cup) in the evening's second match. Strickland and Corey Deuel will close out the opening session against the hometown heroes Steve Davis and Steve Knight.
The format features doubles and singles matches, with the first team to post 15 wins declared the holder of the Mosconi Cup.
Details on tonight's action to follow!
