Reyes Clears First Hurdle

The round-robin segment of the 2000 Victor Chandler World Pool
Championship got underway Saturday afternoon at the Cardiff
International Arena in Cardiff, Wales, with defending champion
Efren Reyes of the Philippines coasting to a 7-2 win over German
qualifier Daniel Dutz. Reyes and Dutz were among the 96 players
representing 29 countries at the $250,000 tournament.
In other early action, England's Daryl Peach won his first two matches, while
countryman Steve Knight also won his first match. Young U.S. hopefuls Mike
Coltrain and Corey Deuel both lost their first match-ups in the round-robin
portion.
