Day 5 of the Victor Chandler World Pool
Championship in Cardiff, Wales, saw the two defending World
Champions eliminated from the final 64-man single elimination
board. English snooker sensation Steve Davis shocked defending
Cardiff champ Efren Reyes 9-8 after being down 8-2 as the field
dwindled to 32 Wednesday night. Davis, backed by a sell-out
hometown crowd, took advantage of a rare error by "The
Magician" to overcome the huge deficit.
Earlier in the day 29 year-old Kevin Smith of
South London took out defending WPA World titleist Nick Varner,
Owensboro, Ky., in a come-from-behind-thriller that ended 9-7.
Play continues today in the $250,000 championship.
