BCA Pro 9-Ball Tourney Rolls On
May 16, 2001 11:52 AM EST
Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Unless you're Efren Reyes. As day three of the $180,000 Billiard Congress of America Pro 9-Ball
tournament came to a close in Las Vegas, players who have recently made big
splashes found themselves in dire straits; recent Turning Stone champ, Francisco Bustamante took a turn to the sudden-death side of the flow chart, and Charlie Williams, who finished third behind Bustamante and Efren
Reyes in that tournament is out of the competition altogether after coming
back from a 9-5 deficit to get to hill-hill against Troy Frank, then missing with two balls left on the table. Earl Strickland, who placed
second at the recent Masters 9-Ball, is also on the one-loss side.
On the distaff side, perennial favorites Allison Fisher and Karen Corr remain undefeated at opposite ends of the chart, while Jeanette Lee will
have to work from the left side after losing, 9-7, to Robin Dodson. The Scandinavians are faring well, as Ewa Laurance, Helena Thornfeldt and Line
Kjorsvik are all undefeated.
Meanwhile, the BCA-sponsored attempt to enter the Guiness Book Of World Records with 1,000 consecutive games of 9-ball seems destined for success
as 940 games have been played thus far.
