FISHER MOVES INTO SEMIFINAL AT WPBA NATIONALS
by Michael M. Mazek

Despite her failure to pocket a ball on the break, top-ranked Allison Fisher advanced to the semifinal match in the 2000 Women's Professional Billiard Association National 9-Ball Championship with a 7-5 win over Helena Thornfeldt Sunday afternoon. Fisher capitalized on several Thornfeldt errors early in the match to forge a 5-2 lead, but her failure to make a ball on the reak eventually allowed Thornfeldt enough opportunities to get into stroke, and the Swedish transplant knotted the match at 5-5. A miss by Thornfeldt in the 11th game allowed Fisher to edge ahead, 6-5, then a miss on the 4 ball in the final game gave the top-ranked Fisher the opening she needed to finish the contest.

Fisher moves into the semifinal of the $80,000 tournament at the Soaring Eagle Resort & Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., against second-ranked Karen Corr. Thornfeldt earned $3,400 for her fourth-place finish. The champion will pick up $10,000.
