FISHER GAINS FINALS VS LEE
by Michael M. Mazek
Switching into high gear, defending champion and top-ranked Allison Fisher squashed second-ranked Karen Corr, 7-1, Sunday afternoon to move into the championship match of the 2000 Women's Professional Billiard Association National 9-Ball Championship at the Soaring Eagle Resort & Casino in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. Fisher will battle 10th-seeded Jeanette Lee for the title in the $80,000 tournament.
Fisher, who struggled through a 7-5 win over Helena Thornfeldt earlier in the day, gained her stroke early on in her match against Corr. Any hopes Corr had of unseating Fisher in the Player of the Year evaporated when she missed an easy 1 ball when trailing 2-1. Fisher quickly took advantage, and never looked back.
"She had control of the table throughout," said Corr, who finished the year with three titles and a second-place ranking in the WPBA. "I had a great year. I'm starting to settle in now, but Allison is still so strong, and she has so much more experience."
Corr earned $5,000 for third place. Fisher and Lee will battle for the $10,000 top prize, with the runnerup gaining $7,000.
