Hohmann Perfect at Accu-Stats Invitational
Sep 8, 2008, 1:19 PM

Hohmann topped each player twice in the double-round-robin format.
On Sunday afternoon at the Accu-Stats 14.1 Straight Pool Invitational, Thorsten Hohmann was undefeated through three days of 60-point matches. A win in his 3 p.m. match against countryman Ralf Souquet, and Hohmann would be assured of a first-place finish.

The double-round-robin event — held at Comet Billiards in Parsippany, N.J. — featured a five-player field of Johnny Archer, John Schmidt, Jose Parica, Souquet and Hohmann. Also, all the action was broadcast live over the Internet on a pay-per-view basis.

Hohmann easily closed out his match with Souquet, 60-5, to move to 7-0, which cemented his top finish since all other players had at least two losses. "Toasti" then went on to complete the undefeated run by topping Parica in the final match, 60-15.

Besides overall standings, players could also compete for bonus money based on the longest runs. Once a player hit 60, he could continue pocketing balls with a run of 100 worth $500 and a 150-plus run worth $1,000.

On Saturday evening, Schmidt ran 60-and-out against Archer, then continued to roll through racks on his way to a final total of 169. Hohmann posted the second and third highest totals with runs of 149 and 112.

For his efforts, Hohmann took home a total of $5,000 — including $500 for each win and an additional $500 for each of his two 100-plus runs. All players earned $500 for each win, with Schmidt pocketing an additional $1,000 for his 169-ball effort.
