Web Gems
Welcome back to Web Gems. This month’s videos are almost all from TV and film, including a classic “Sanford & Son” episode, a “Tom & Jerry” cartoon, and the poolroom brawl from “Mean Streets.” But first — the best trick shot ever executed by a member of the poultry family.
Here it is — you can’t help but cry “fowl” on this shot. But it’s pretty damn clever. While we’re on animals, here’s a great Tom & Jerry short, “Cue Ball Cat.” Poor Jerry, trying to set up a home in the ball-return slot. A natural extension of our cat vs. mouse melee, here’s the poolhall brawl from Martin Scorsese’s “Mean Streets.” This one lasts a bit longer than your average poolroom dustup. Here’s a quick palate-cleanser: The pool-table version of juggling. Fred Sanford gets a pool table for his birthday in the classic “Sanford & Son” episode “A House Is Not a Poolroom.” Check out Fred and Grady woofing! Another pool cartoon for you — an early digital-era short about the adventures of “Scratch,” so small he has to jump twice his height to shoot. We’ll finish up with two TV spots focusing on youngsters: First, one from the U.K., featuring an impressive version of the machine-gun shot on a snooker table. Finally, here’s a feature from about seven years ago on Landon Shuffett, who just won the Boys 14-and-under division of the BEF Junior Nationals. |
