U.S. Bar Table Championships Underway in Rollickin' Reno

The 14th Annual U.S. Bar Table Championships is underway at the Sands Regency Hotel and Casino in Reno, Nev. The 9-ball division began Feb. 28 and will be completed March 2. The 8-ball division will immediately follow and finish March 4. Each division has a $10,000-added purse, and the highest finishing woman receive a $500 bonus. There is also a $5,000 bonus for any player who wins both events.

Now in its second day, the field of 144 has been thinned, including the elimination of favorites Gabe Owen and Ernesto Dominguez. Owen won his first two matches on the winner's side, but then lost to Rafael Martinez and then Sal Butera on the one-loss side. Dominguez started his event with two wins and then lost to James Walden and young Austin Murphy.

Top players still playing on the winners side include Kim Davenport, Warren Kiamco, Gandy Valle, Shane Van Boening, Jui-Lung Chen, Tyler Edey, Glenn Atwell, Rafael Martinez.
