Mar 19, 2008, 6:23 PM

Petroni's Web site announces the diagnoses following last week's incident.
According to Fabio Petroni's official Web site, the 35-year-old Italian professional has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder following a violent episode at the Diamond Open 9-Ball Pro Players Championship.

On Petroni's site (www.fabiopetroni.it), he apologizes to event organizer Allen Hopkins, the fans and players. The brief statement also mentions the bipolar diagnosis and that he is under doctor's supervision.

Petroni was hospitalized on Thursday, March 13, after repeatedly slamming his face into the corner of the table during his first-round match at the Super Billiards Expo pro event. Trailing 6-2 against Gabe Owen, Petroni knelt down by the table and hit his forehead into the table 4 to 6 times. He was escorted out of the tournament area, then admitted to a hospital in nearby Montgomery, Pa.
