Play Begins at Great Lakes Classic
Jun 26, 2008, 5:58 PM

Pan is looking for her second WPBA title this month.
The WPBA professionals are back at the tables for the Classic Tour's second event in June. First-round action is in progress at the Great Lakes Classic — held at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Ind., through Sunday, June 29.

Xiaoting Pan begins her quest for back-to-back Great Lakes titles against Line Kjorsvik. Pan, who won the GenerationPool.com 9-Ball Championship in Charlotte just two weeks ago, is currently ranked third on the WPBA's recently reset points list.

Top-ranked Allison Fisher faces Leanne Amable in the first round. At the GenerationPool.com event, Fisher was eliminated in her quarterfinal match against Anna Kostanian. It was the first time in April 2007 that Fisher did not make the final four.

Kostanian, a rising star on the Classic Tour, drew Megan Minerich in the first round. Kostanian has been impressive through two events in 2008, finishing fifth in San Diego and third in Charlotte.

Double-elimination play will continue through Saturday night, when the format will switch to single elimination once 16 players remain. The semifinals are scheduled for Sunday at 1 and 3 p.m. (EST), with the final immediately following at 5 p.m.

Updated brackets will be available at www.wpba.com throughout the weekend.
