Avoid the Rails
“NO RAIL” pool is a great way to work on advanced cue-ball control. You have to plan ahead — and be very precise — to keep your cue ball from hitting a cushion or another ball.

Put all 15 balls on the intersections of the diamonds south of the head string. With ball in hand behind the line, start working your way through the rack — all without hitting a rail or another ball. If this seems impossible, allow yourself some number of “hand spans,” meaning you can move the cue ball the span of your outstretched fingers. [Bob Jewett]
