Off the Rails
Why do this drill? Because you don’t like the cue ball being stuck to the rail.

Set up Shot A, where you’re looking to get position from the 1 to the 2 ball. Instead of going one rail (shown in red), which can leave you stuck to the long rail, use a bit of inside English so you can go off the long rail in line with the 2 for the side. Similarly, use a bit of follow for Shot B so you can go off the long rail and give yourself a little room for the 9.
