Scenic Route


Try finding an instructor who can argue with the adage about limiting the cue ball’s movement when planning for position. No matter how important that lesson may be, you can’t avoid a cross-table path. And for that situation, here’s a drill to work on long-range position.

Set up the four balls as shown in the diagram. Taking ball in hand on the 6 ball, try to run the balls in order. You’ll be forced to cross both table axes, just in case you’re forced to send the cue ball from one end to the other.
