Position: Progressive Drill II
The goal here is to get comfortable with the full complement of vertical-axis English options and where the cue ball goes after impact. (The red line is for follow, the black for center-ball, and orange for draw.) To review: The cue ball must have backspin on impact for draw, forward spin for follow, and essentially be skidding on impact for center-ball. To get a grip on speed control, practice landing the cue ball on the marked positions (corresponding with the long-rail diamonds). Hit one position three times in a row, and then move on. Here’s the curve ball: You also need to practice from different cue-ball positions at start, forcing you to recalibrate shot strength.
