Going for the Kill
YOU’RE NOT always going to have perfect position, so it’s worth planning for the inevitable. Here, you want to work on softly killing the cue ball.

Put the 1 ball one diamond off the long rail and three off the bottom rail. Place a cue in the middle of the table. Experiment with soft hits on the cue ball, trying draw, stun and follow. You want to keep the cue ball on the same side of the table, so pocket speed is crucial. [Bob Jewett]
