Middle of the Road
Faced with an open table, it’s a good idea to keep your cue ball in the diagram’s shaded area. Why? Because you want to keep an angle for position on your next shot.

Throw a few balls on the table (3 for beginners, 9 for experts) and break up any clusters. With ball in hand, run through the sequence of shots, always keeping the cue ball between the middle two diamonds of the table.
