Q. I'm a 21-year-old pool player who recently met a woman who's eight years older than me. But I don't know if she will even look at me relationship-wise. What should I do?
Alex; Orange, Calif.

A. Well, friendship is always a good place to start. Just try to spend a little time with her first. Ask her to play pool or have lunch. Women generally give signals; the men just don't always pay attention to look out for them. There are so many signs, but for now, be a friend. Charm her by being yourself — with a little extra chivalry thrown in! Hope she's worthy of you.

Q. Can you be taught to read patterns correctly?
Bill G.; Louisville, Ky.

A. Absolutely! Of course, experience helps you as well, because the feeling is different in real game situations, kind of like school. You can learn from a teacher, but can you come up with the answer during a final exam or does your mind go blank? Get a great instructor, but also challenge yourself to be patient and exercise your brain when playing on your own.
