March: Balukas or Fisher
March 2017

Q: This is a follow-up question to the question about Mike Sigel vs. Efren Reyes. Who was better, Jean Balukas or Allison Fisher?

Tony LaBanca, Tampa, Fla

A: I never really got to witness Jean at her best. I can only assume her competitive spirit, powerful stroke and demeanor at the table was an unusual and admirable sight. Still, itís hard to imagine that she could have been better and more consistent than Allison when Allison was at the top of her game. I have even heard Jean say that she was never the player that Allison was. Iím not sure that Allison has more knowledge about the game than Jean, or even me, for that matter. I do believe that if she didnít, she wasnít very far off. I do know that Allisonís composure at the table, her consistency, her ability to take the heat, her accuracy with her cue ball and object balls, her understanding of her own true game and her ability to make the proper choices in the moment made her one of the greatest players of all time, male or female. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Allison, as annoying as that is!
