May: Best Feeling Ever
May 2017

Q: Of your greatest victories, which one meant the most to you and for what reason? And was there a tournament win during which you felt like you played the best pool of your life all the way through?

Bernie Kunka, Racine, Wis.

A: I get asked this a lot and I always respond with two victories for two different reasons. One was the Gentleman Jack Great Dallas Shootout. I was battling some demons during that particular event, which Iím not sure anyone could understand. Privately, it was my toughest and proudest win. The most prestigious title you can win is a gold medal representing America. I competed the first time billiards ever got an opportunity to compete in the World Games in Akita, Japan. I was recovering from back surgery when I found out I was selected to compete and it was both the greatest joy and sheer panic. I worked with Jerry Briesath to get into playing shape and I went on to win the gold medal and got to see the U.S. flag raised and hear our national anthem across a sea of proud countrymen from all over the world who were respresenting their sport. Best feeling ever.
